#3 Sized Dunlap 3726 Smoothing Plane by Sargent This is the same width as a #3 but is the same length as a #4, so a 3 1/2? LOL
#3 sized Dunlap 3726 Smoothing Plane. Iron Stamped 619 meaning this was produced by Sargent. However I think the iron is a later replacement since 619 was not used until about 1958, but the bodies where red.
Dunlap was Sears top of the line hand tools, replacing Fulton in the late 1930's. At this time Craftsman was there 2nd tier tools.
I assume this is from about 1939-1941 due to the black painted frog and the brass waist nuts. I am going off the Millers Falls produced planes since i cannot find much about the Sargent produced planes
The tote has been replaced and is not the best fitting tote I have seen, it's a lamented oak? I would replace the tote if I were to use it.
The plane needs restored, but is complete and I see no major issues, just typical surface rust. An hour with WD-40 and some sandpaper this plane will look great, give it a nice tuning and it will work great as well.
This comes from a collection of planes and other woodworking tools I bought. I was buying, restoring and reselling
I also use and sorta collect woodworking hand tools, but my health has been getting worse and I figure that I need to thin down my tools to just what I actually use. That way it's easier on my wife when I am gone, she does not have so much stuff to deal with.

Selling since November 2024
Retired Archaeologist now working for city of Lexington Engineering Dept. Have been a carpenter and woodworking for some time, just switched over to hand tools several years ago. But now my health has changed, I have no kids and if Gods will, will be retiring and moving to Philippines in the next 5 Years. So I am slowly selling off tools (and other things) that I know I will not be hauling across the world. When the time comes, I may sell off more, but for now all my extras or things I bought to resale need to go....Heck I may just sell it all and not touch a tool again depending on my health in 5 years....
