Details
Tittle in blue on front. Import from UK. Vinyl plays with some crackles and a few light-clicks (play-graded). Cover has a few creases near edges and light-scuffing, surface impressions, tape near opening(front/back); slight discoloration with darker spots on back, surface abrasions on front. Inner-sleeve is original (CBS Ads); one seams partially split. Spine is mostly readable with some wear. Shelf-wear edges and corners; small split near center on top. Orange one-eye label. (Not a cut-out.)
The album's title, Sounds of Silence is a slight modification of the title of the duo's first hit, The Sound of Silence which had earlier been released on the album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M., and later on The Graduate. Without the knowledge of Simon and Garfunkel, electric instruments and drums were overdubbed by Bob Dylan's studio band. This new version was released as a single in September 1965, and opens the album. Homeward Bound was released on the album in the UK, placed at the beginning of Side 2 before Richard Cory. Richard Cory was based on a poem by Edwin Arlington Robinson. Anji is an instrumental piece that Simon had picked up, presumably in London, from guitarist Davey Graham. The only brand new Paul Simon compositions on the album were Blessed and We've Got a Groovy Thing Goin'. The album cover photo was shot at Franklin Canyon Park in Los Angeles, California.
