Details
Add a touch of Japanese folk artistry to your collection with this beautiful vintage Yamamoto pottery shallow bowl. Measuring approximately 9 inches across and 2 inches tall, this hand-painted piece features a striking maple leaf (momiji) motif in warm autumn tones of red, brown, and green. The maple leaf is a beloved seasonal symbol in Japanese culture, representing the beauty of autumn and the passage of time.
The bowl is marked on the underside with the impressed 山本 (Yamamoto) seal, identifying it as the work of a Yamamoto family kiln or studio, likely from the Showa era (mid-20th century, ca. 1940s–1960s). The rustic style, earthy glaze, and heavy crazing are characteristic of the Mingei (folk craft) movement, which celebrated traditional handwork and natural beauty.
This shallow bowl/charger makes a perfect display piece for wall or shelf decor, but it could also serve as a unique table centerpiece.

Vintage condition with heavy glaze crazing and some discoloration (typical of older Japanese pottery and part of its authentic character).

I love hunting for treasures and finding bargains. I am very busy with three parents/in laws all in their 80s and the most wonderful six year old grandson with autism. Digging for vintage treasures is a little "me time" and I'm looking forward to sharing them with everyone through Secondhand Squad.
